Antiochia is the labor of love for three women – mother, daughter and a best friend
‐ who worked, lived and traveled in four continents. We’re excited to present the
authentic, the pure and the natural. We rely on the proven goodness of the centuries‐old
methods and ingredients. We guarantee environment friendly, cruelty‐free, all natural
products.
Our towels are handwoven in traditional looms in the well-know textile town Denizli
in Turkey.
Also we are proud to partner with several women foundations in Turkey who aim to
support women's efforts to be economically independent and to improve the quality
of their lives in urban and rural communities. At Antiochia, we work directly with
local women’s groups at various stages of our production.
Antiochia (Antakya today) is the seat of Hatay Province in southern Turkey, approximately
14 mi les inland from the Mediterranean coast. The city of Antioch was founded in
300 BC, after the death of Alexander, by the Seleucid King Antiochus Soter, and
went on to play an important part in the history as one of the largest cities in
the Roman Empire and Byzantium, a key location of the early years of Christianity,
the Antiochian Orthodox Church, the rise of Islam and The Crusades.
Here one of the oldest soap manufacturers in Mesopotamia has withstood the test
of time: Antiochia Soap. Archaeological findings provide evidence of its existence
as far back as early antiquity; at the time when Syrian Aleppo manufactured a very
similar soap from an olive and laurel oil basis.
